Dime Bag 3 at Giant Robot NY

Dime Bag 3
July 18 - August 12, 2009
Reception: Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.

Giant Robot Gallery
437 East 9th Street Between 1st Ave. & Ave. A, in the East Village
New York, New York 10009

Giant Robot is proud to host a tiny exhibition of colossal proportions curated by artists Jordin Isip and Rodger Stevens.
Dime Bag 3 is the ninth in an ongoing series of events by Isip and Stevens, bringing together over 200 artists from New York City and beyond representing an extraordinary variety of disciplines. Painters, illustrators, graphic designers, filmmakers, photographers, product designers, and others have been invited to create artworks specifically designed to be exhibited in 3-inch plastic bags: dime bags. Each artist was sent one of the symbolic baggies and asked to fill it in any way they wished.

The Eel Life

I just finished these paintings for the "Just Because" show at the C.A.V.E. Gallery.
They are pretty small. You can't tell by the scan so much, but there's a lot of metalics in the portrait. I guess you will have to see them in person to get the full effect!

Poster Design / Call to Entry!

Not only did I make this poster, I'm also a co-organizer! This is going to be a really fun event.

The Gowanus Studio Space Jell-O Mold Competition
CAll TO ENTRY

Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 6-10pm
Register by June 12, 2009 to compete

Jell-O is the perfect medium for design in these times of restraint given its versatility, economy, and availability. This is why it’s time for a comeback of the Jell-O proportions of old: soaring heights, strange colors, object suspension!
The Gowanus Studio Space’s Jell-O Mold Competition will pit designers against each other in an effort to make the Jell-O mold cool again. Competitors will battle it out for mold supremacy in the following categories:
- Creativity
- Aesthetics
- Structural/sculptural ingenuity
- Edibility/culinary appeal
- Best use and showcase of Jell-O
A crack panel of respected judges will announce the winners at 8pm on the day of the event. The judging and awards ceremony will be held at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn.
The event is open to the public so even if you don’t compete you can come check out the action! Kelso beer and Jell-O shots will be served.

We are also running a vacum form workshop so you can build your very own mold.

My painting for GAG ME WITH A TOON

Shipping out this hotness tomorrow. Its my take on rainbow brite. Trying to think of a good name.... Can you tell who was my reference photo?

Gag Me With a Toon!

Heres some more info for Gag Me with a Toon: GAG ME WITH A TOON 2: HARDER! FASTER! RADDER!
GAG ME WITH A TOON, not the mold, but the twin!
It’s the second go-round for this glorious show in which pop cartoon art is all that we know.
The original rocked but what shall we do it’s time to install what we call GAG TWO?
How is it HARDER? Because of the people whom we have corralled under our ink-stained steeple.
These artists are strong and accepted the task of eclipsing what we have recently passed!
How is it FASTER? We tempted the fates and shortened the time in-between GAG ME dates!
How is it RADDER? Is that even a word? I’ll leave that to Webster and remain undeterred to exhort you and your cronies to meet in the rear of the place we call Meltdown in the fifth month of the year where we shall show you dangers and demons, cereal mascots and spinach-filled sea men, double the lions that form into knights, brilliant blue dwarves and robotic lights.
We’ve multiplied madness and aggrandized our art, now it is up to you to come do your part!
Drink with two fists and view with two eyes this wonderful show that is littered with lies.
But this is line is truth, lest I burn in the fire; within these walls you’ll find much to admire.
GAG ME WITH A TOON NUMBER TWO is the name!
Don’t hate on this sequel. It’s not more of the same.

DELINEATIONS at Ad Hoc Art

I have a drawing in this super cool show and I will be in attendence at the opening. This Friday, January 16th. Yay!

Ad Hoc Art proudly presents...

DELINEATIONS (in the front gallery)
Ad Hoc Art is proud to present "Delineations": a collection of drawings and illustrations from a diverse group of international artists.
Drawing has been and will always be a fundamental part of the art-making process. Starting as far back as the 1400's, artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Michelangelo, and Raphael used drawing as not only a starting point but as a way to communicate things which could not be accomplished in any other medium. Fast forward to the 1900's as artists such as Max Beckmann, Jean Dubuffet, Arshile Gorky, M. C. Escher, André Masson, and Pablo Picasso not only continued this serious examination of drawing as fine art, but took it to incredible new places through their creativity and talent. In more recent times artists such as Marcel Dzama, R. Crumb, Dan Clowes, Joe Sacco, Yoshitomo Nara, and Julie Doucet (among many, many others) again redefined how we look at drawing as not only a means to an end but an important and impressive end in itself. Continuing with this amazing tradition, we present to you a new generation of drawers and illustrators who hope to not only add to this amazing lineage of artists but to also find ways to reinvent and reinterpret how drawing can be used to communicate and enlighten.

Participating artists include: John Breiner, Alley Cat, Adam William Carnes, Gigi Chen, Fernanda Cohen, Molly Crabapple, Adam Collison, Cycle, Deseo, Bonnie Durham, Ezra Li Eismont, Ewelina Ferruso, EZO, Nate Frizzel, Yoko Furuso, Bob Gibson (TLP), Mark Gibson, GROW, Joshua Hagler, Fred Harper, Peter Herpich, Thomas Herpich, Nevada Hill, Phil Hollenbeck, Mike Houston (Cannonball Press), isuel isuel, Jeremyville, Katie Kaplan, Jane Kim, Hiro Kurata, Rafael Ladesma III, Laura Lee, Tim Hon Hung Lee, Tae Lee, Brian Life, Tommii Lim, Daniel Hyun Lim (Fawn Fruits), David MacDowell, Drew Maillard, Sara Antoinette Martin, Martin Mazorra (Cannonball Pres), MIHA, Melissa Murray, Gilbert Oh, Logik One, Pagan, Nathan Lee Pickett, Lady Pink, Lilly Piri, Anthony Pontius, Devin Powers, Carlos (MARE139) Rodriguez, Dorthy Royle, Martina Secondo Russo, Frank Russo, Allison Sommers, Robert Steel, Kevin Earl Taylor, TheDirtyFabulous, Elisabeth Timpone, TOOFLY, James Turek, Connie Wang, Jaeran Won, Pippi Zornoza plus Mikey & Doyle of the Black Label Bike Club
